I will honor the sale of a breeding collies to the ones I have already promised I would ( I do stand by my word), however, there will be an in-depth written contract in place ( I will no longer take the word of breeders) so that the collie never ends up in a puppy mill as their home by sale or lease. I loathe puppy mills! I DO NOT want collies from me or the lines I have worked so hard to produce to end up in puppy mills. I consider breeders who knowingly and purposely supply these places with collies to be unethical and heartless, thinking of their own financial gain with no thoughts of the innocent collie who has trusted and loved them unconditionally.
Any questions, do your own research, you will find many obvious answers as to who is supplying puppy mills with normal eyed and non carrier puppies for breeding.
Champions and titles are wonderful but that is not a priority with us. We breed with priorities on great health and wonderful temperaments plus beautiful collies.
The MDR1 gene is huge! We are working, step by step, to get rid of the collie drug sensitivity in our collies and the puppies that come from us.

Multidrug Sensitivity in Dogs
Some dog breeds are more sensitive to certain drugs than other breeds. Collies and related breeds, for instance, can have adverse reactions to drugs such as ivermectin and loperamide (Imodium). At Washington State University's College of Veterinary Medicine you can get your dog tested for drug sensitivity and keep up with the latest research.

Drug sensitivities result from a mutation in the multi-drug resistance gene (MDR1). This gene encodes a protein, P-glycoprotein that is responsible for pumping many drugs and other toxins out of the brain. Dogs with the mutant gene cannot pump some drugs out of the brain as a normal dog would, which may result in abnormal neurologic signs. The result may be an illness requiring an extended hospital stay - or even death.

Collie Eye Anomaly / Choroidal Hypoplasia (CEA)
The frequency of the CEA/CH gene mutation in U.S. Rough and Smooth Collies appears to be extremely high. In general, the frequency of affecteds in Rough and Smooth Collies is well over 50%, and in some populations has been observed to be as high as 85-90% of dogs examined.

We offer companion/Pet puppies (not to be bred)
The hips have been checked on the parents, the puppy is normal eyed or non carrier, and will be either MDR1 mutant/normal or normal/normal. We have a long line of healthy collies with amazing temperaments.

There are families who opt to stay on the waiting list for future puppy which is just fine, this keeps them in line for when they are ready, however, we cannot honor the price of the puppy when they went on this list, the puppy will sell at the current price since our prices have also increased in raising the puppy and caring for our collies.

All offspring from the Garlind Ridge collies are Normal eyed (no collie eye)
and Normal eyed non carriers (they do not have collie eye and cannot produce puppies with collie eye)

Our Puppies are very special to us, therefore

*Our puppies are not for resale-we expect them to live their entire lives with the adoptive families if at all possible. If a family cannot care for the Garlind Ridge collie for any reason, this collie should be returned to us.

*We do have puppy & collie visitation times welcoming those interested to come for a visit at that time. With our large family, dairy farm, collies, and working off of the farm we are very busy. If we granted visitations every time a family asked, we would have collie visitors nearly every weekend, taking away time from our family time which is extremely important to us.

We screen all potential adoptive families before they are put on our waiting/wish list for a Garlind Ridge puppy.

For the safety of our puppies, we do not allow visitors until the puppies are at least 4 weeks of age. Please do not ask to see puppies younger than this. We appreciate you honoring our request for the safety of our puppies.

Our collies are a passion of ours. We love our collies and do what is best for them and their offspring. We place our puppies in the best possible homes and have the right to refuse anyone the adoption of one of our puppies for any reason at any time should we not feel comfortable with it.

We vaccinate according to the recommendations of

Jean Dodds, DVM, a world renowned vaccine research scientist

Our puppies receive Intervet Puppy Progard as recommended by Dr. Dodds. This is a vaccination for distemper and parvovirus.

Please research the over vaccinating that is being done and harming our canine friends. There are new recommended vaccination guidelines many are unaware of.

*Three to four wormings before placement

*CVI form from the Veterinary health check done on your puppy

*Copy of the pedigree and AKC paperwork for each parent verifying born from AKC registered /purebred parents ----our puppies are not sold with breeding rights, tget are companion puppies only! These puppies are to be spayed/neutered by the age of 8 months.

*Copy of DNA from father of puppy

*Litter pedigree

*Pictures of both parents and grandparents if we have them which we do have for most

* A photo collage of all of the puppies in the litter along with pictures of the parents

Our collies and puppies are treated like family. Our girls give birth in our home on blankets with us by their side until long after the last puppy of the litter has been born. Our puppies and their mothers have a puppy area/bed lined with flannel sheets on their floor for the first 3 weeks of their lives. Newspapers are slippery and can be hard on the development of the bones in puppy. Once the puppies begin to eat, they are moved to a different area in our home with a larger area for play (we call them their puppy condos!) and interaction with their siblings. Their Mom is free to go in and play with the puppies or be outside of the condo and keep a watchful eye over her puppies.

Note: We feel that lots and lots of love and handling is very important in the first few days and weeks of a puppy's life. (This is called imprinting) We guarantee that your puppy will come prespoiled, having had lots of interaction with our family, children and adults.

At times, due to the distances, families are unable to drive for the puppy and the drives for the puppy would be very hard on the puppy. Due to the long drives, we have decided that we would ship puppies but ONLY on from Madison, WI or Milwaukee, Wi with the flights being the shortest for the puppy that we can find

Shipping the puppy would be $450 which would be the cost of the airline ticket, Shipping crate, Vet check, Interstate Health Certificate and delivery to the airport.
Some destinations may be more depending on our costs.

We expect our puppies to spend their entire lives in the home that adopts them from us.
Breeders: We have had many breeders interested in our collies due to the health checks we do.
We do not advertise that we will sell to breeders since the majority of our collies go to pet homes which we love. At times, after extensive screening, we have sold a puppy as a breeder to the right home that will treat them like family. We know that manybreeders will trade or sell their dogs to improve their lines but that is not what we want for our puppies. When our puppies are placed, we want them to have a lifetime home, living with a family, not in a kennel. Please do not ask us about a Garlind Ridge collie puppy to join your breeding program unless this puppy will become a part of your family for it's lifetime.
